Tax on top of estimated cost for a/c ductwork replacement
Amount: $3,600.00 for the cake
Posted by: [email protected] in Tampa, FL.Posted: March 25th, 2011 10:03AM
Contractor: EverclearBTUs:
I was given an estimate of $3600 to replace the ductwork in my 1950's house. Has taken weeks instead of the day & a half estimated. However, that's another story - it's almost done, and contractor added 7% sales tax on top of the $3600. Is this legit? Roofer did not add tax to the original estimate; driveway paver did not add tax to the original estimate. Seems fishy that this outfit is.

Supply and Return Plenum replacement is not covered by home warranty
Amount: $780.00 for the cake
Posted by: Rima in Los Angeles, CA.Posted: February 3rd, 2011 03:02PM
Contractor: BPG InsuranceBTUs:
I have a home warranty insurance and the evaporative coil of an air conditioner with heat pump system has to be replaced, this is covered by warranty. What is not covered - supply and return plenums. Estimated cost out of pocket is $780. The warranty contract says: "Company determines that upgrades to a ducted heat pump system are required to comply with 13 SEER and/or 7.7 HSPF requirements, Company will replace covered components that are necessary to maintain compatibility with the replacement unit, including the air handler, evaporative coil,
transition, plenum, etc" It says plenum is covered, but I do not understand how to read "to comply with 13 SEER"?? Shoudl the plenums be covered as well as the evaporative coil is covered? I appreciate knowledge sharing.

Bought a 1700 sq ft home 5 months ago. We got a additional insurance package where if any of our major appliances went out they would be repaired or replaced. However this doesn't cover the labor so. Our insurance is going to pay the cost for a 4ton Carrier 90,000 btu system (replacing 12 year old 3 ton 65,000 btu Carrier(that looked inside like it wasnt serviced ever). Contractor is charging as follows.. package unit sheet metal modify $350.00, gas line modify $225, drain line modify $175, dog house $250, electrical modify $125 and disposal fee off $150. for total of $1,275.. no work to ducts.. does this sound alright?.. anything I should look into?.. should get a 5 year warranty with the unit then was told to get online and could extend it to 10 years.. that's all I know about it at this point.

Divine comfort products Chatsworth, Ca offered a $69 summr deal. Supposed to check to everything, put some freon gas in it, clean/replaec filter, clean the coils, check the moters. Guy came out in a old beat-up van with no ladder, used my brother's ladder to get on roof... very fishy? Thier website doesn;t werk neither. They charged me $289 for a chinese $5.00 part, to replace a part which wassn't bad and then charged me $250 fer a capciter which I didn't need either and did nothing else. Didn't change the dirty filter or clean the coils or put the gas in the compressor...my dad said they just cheated me and did nothing. :( I really needed that money to.
