Purchased the fence materials and did the install myself. This included a gate too. It was time consuming but I saved a ton of cash and the fence is perfectly straight and square. Plus the fence material isn't that cheap garbage Lowe's and HD sell, this was from fencecenter.com. |

I am wondering how "your calculations" are a fair way to judge your neighbor. $2000 for 175 feet of fence is only $11.50 per foot. Besides, who are you to say that no contractor is worth $50/hr? Does he come to your office and tell you that you do nothing but sit on your butt all day so you are not worth the amount that you get paid? No he does not so keep your rude presumptuous comments to yourself. |

I did my own design up in acad, estimated the material quantities, including conc & associated hardware and came up with $1250.00. My contractor neighbor wants about $50-$100 ($2000 for the job) per hour, based on my calculations, for his labour! Is he outta his tree??? My labour is FREE! Do-it-yourself people! Don't let a contractor take you to the bank for something any joe blow could do! Geeeeez, it's just a freakin fence, not the Eifel Tower! |

Had to install an AlumiGuard 54" high white decoritive fence around our in-ground pool.. The cost of materials runs about 2500... but the labor is what really gets my panties in a bunch..another 2500 for 3 days worth of work.. Well ...I'll be paying this fence off for a few years thanks to my credit card! |

Number of Feet: 197 | Material: Stockade |
I am suffering a bit of sticker shock over the first estimate we got for fencing in the yard for the dogs. 6 x 8 PT stockade with 2 5"gates, 4x4PT posts, cement and hardware came in at$1350.00...installation came in at $5417.00. This seems a bit HIGH, especially in times like these...any thots?? |

Number of Feet: 23 | Material: chain link |
I needed 23 feet of chain link to finish an entrance gate to my property. I called for 2 quotes both came in at about 800 dollars. This motivated me to do it myself. I dug the holes and cemented the poles.A neighbor showed me how to install the fabric. Its done and looks good. I saved over 500 dollars. From now on I will do my own home repairs if possible. No more making contractors rich. |

Number of Feet: 204'lf | Material: ornamental galvanized steel |
I just purchased an ornamental galvanized steel fence from Xtreme Fence Mfg. in Cumming, GA. They were able to beat all the other contractors bids with a far supirior product bar none. They also can deliver what they say. The whole process was turn key. We did alot of research and nothing else compared. Brian was our sales person and you could not have asked for a better experience. |

Also I should mention I dont use nails its all screws post concreated atleast 18" deep and det 24hours before framing. I have seen some of mentioned above companies work and lets just say repost in a year and tell us what your fence looks like. |

Number of Feet: 413 | Material: Pine Treated Privacy Fence |
Old split-rail fence removed. Installed new 6' privacy fence with dog-eared planks between 4x4 posts (in concrete). Two gates. I think this is a great price for 413 linear feet. And it's firmly constructed. Work completed in two days. |

Number of Feet: 100 lf | Material: Treated Pine |
With reference with Joe Adams in Katy, Tx; (Fence Replacent). And if you can give the contractors name to me, thanks..but I have a need for a replacement fence (thanks to Ike), treated pine, much like Mr. Adams, but treated pine..and only about 100lf. I had a estimate for $2376 from a local builder..no "take away", put the old on the drive..blah,blah..! Want 1/2 $ before the works starts, 1/2 after the project is done.
Nawwwwwww..no deal folks. I've been a heavy constuction estimator for 32 years. The best price that I could estimate would be $1800 and that's with extras..profit, etc..ect.. |

I got a great picket fence for half of the average of picket fences mention in the article. The fence came with a lifetime installation warranty and ended up being way more then I had ever imagined. The company is called Production Fenceworks & Associates. Their web site is http://www.productionfenceworks.com |
