Had main drain backing up. Plumbing company came out to snake. and got tree roots out. Plumber was saying that he felt the drain had other issues so he came back to camera it (no charge) said it had cracks and probably ready to collaspe. He was showing to me but I had no idea what I was looking at. Gave estimate to reline with lifetime warranty on the condition of getting the main drained cleaned every year (current charge for that is $199 yr) otherwise 20 yr warranty. Drain replacement estimate was 6800.00 with 5 yr warranty. I wondering if I should just hold off to when and if it collapse and then pay the 6800.00 to have it replaced since I was only planning on living here a couple more years. |

40 year old Cast Iron pipe leaves house under the garage follows under driveway downhill and through woods to street. Had roots penetrating in several joints backed up all the way up to the house. Roto-rooter had to cut into the drive up by the house to put in a clean out, then jet blasted the roots out of the pipe and relined the entire run with the Resin coated sleeve. Would have cost a lot more to break up drive and cut down trees to excavate and replace. Roto-rooter has 10 year warranty on work and Permi-Liner has a 50 year warranty on the materials I hope I never have to test this. |

Type: PVC | Length: 60' |
Backhoe rental, $250/day x 2 days
Materials, less than $100
10' deep trench, straight line from house to sewer tap. 14 hours total. At $100/hr., $1400 is a fair price.
If you can't do it yourself, at least know that this is actual cost. Call around, bargain for a better price. $5-6000 or more is absolutely ridiculous. |

Type: replacement | Length: 40ft + 20ft |
My house was built over 60 years ago with a septic system outside, in the back yard. Decades ago, the town switched to sewers, and somehow the sewer pipes ended up under a sunroom which was remodeled into a room. Those pipes were crushed by tree roots this summer, and there was also 20 ft to be replaced in front of the house. The solution for the part under the former sunroom was to close those pipes off and re-route them through the basement. The portion in front of the house was replaced by digging a trench. All of the elbows are new, and now none of the pipe is buried under the house. Roto-Rooter did the job, and I thought they were very professional with working up an engineering plan, working through the whole process with town inspectors, finishing the work one day and covering the outdoor pipes the next day. |

I'm not sure if all the work they did was needed.Job seemed to keep getting bigger and cost more.Started with $40 to snake drain,$150 for camera inspec.,$1200 for spot repair.Ahhh, whole line needs to be replaced.$6000.Then they show me roots futher down the line and start talking about more work, that's were I blew my top and got loud. They said don't worry it "should be O.K." for around 10 years.I would call someone other than Urgent Rooter |

Poor work on Roto Rooter, they didn't support the pipe they installed and it collapsed causing alot of damage to the basement and alot of personal property. had a 5 year warranty but the GM Ray Dent offer to only pay 300.00 for the pipe. Refused to take responsibility for the damage even though we have a writte statement from the plumber that repaired it correctly ( Different Company) also MSD Agreed that Roto rooter was to blame. |

Type: Dig clay and replace w PVC | Length: 20' |
Dug 14' down, replaced abt 20' of pipe. And what a hot mess it is! The walls collapsed several times making a 7' wide hole, dirt was put on top of the other half of our lawn, backhoe tore that out putting dirt back. Our sprinkler system is missing, it must be 10' under. The dirt did not fit back into the hole and so we now have a big 3' dirt/mud hill in our yard with ugly "up to code" clean outs right in the middle. :( lessons... Remove sprinkler heads/system and bushes nearby, try put dirt somewhere besides other grass (on wood). Also, dug up tons of yucky clay which I am guessing will not be so productive to new grass... |

Many companies charge $200 to $350 just to check the line. One company offers a Snake Push Rod Inspection Camera for $200. That's just the basics and all you should need. They also sell a monitor, Aux converter and/or RCA to USB converter in which you can capture the video if you need to. |

Type: Dig and replace | Length: 35ft |
Collapsed sewer lateral caused by city owned tree. City contractors had to dig 7 ft deep to replace line and do a road cut the width of the road to connect to sewer main. Other work involved; traffic control, re-sodding lawn, repaving street and curb.If The tree was two feet closer towards the house on our property it would have cost us 10000+ |

Used Doodyman to the Rescue. I think the price was high, and they used non-plumbers to do connections (including re-connecting a gas dryer) on day two, which is illegal I think. Pluses are they came immediately and were courteous, respectful and worked quickly. Forget about paying 65 a foot for a liner (per above). Not in New York. |

While the original estimate was $5500K the line was broken most severely next to a telephone pole so I had to pay $750 a day for Xcel Energy to have a truck hold the utility pole in place while the digging took place. |

we hired ROTO-ROOTER to replace 10ft clay pipe in front of our house, they digged 8ft deep and replaced 10ft plastic pipe. we spend 5500 dollors for it. We don't know if this price is resonable or not. |

Replaced to the edge of sidewalk and it seemed to be fine. I was miffed about cost but with permits and sidewalk/ driveway repairs it seems still high but they were there right away to do it. Rescue Rooter did the work. Then the fun began two weeks later same issue. They found a chunk of the cemment in the pipe. Then three weeks later again. This time the 8 foot from the sidewalk to the sewer was still left as cement pipe. Boy I blew this there was a root 4 ft from the main for the city and the city does not cover it where we live. The worse part is we suspect this was the issue to start and we paid 10 K for the lesson. I want to sue them bit I signed the contract for the work. So now they plan to cut the root out. Fancy that..... |

6 hours from start to finish. Went in from basement to alley main city sewer. Very satisfied with Horizon Services. Except for a 4-foot square of fresh dirt outside and a 3 foot square of new basement concrete floor on the inside, you can't tell anything was done. |

Type: trenchless pipebursting and relining | Length: about 50' |
They first rotored it out ($156) and showed me the video. Decided to replace from front of house-- of course, under concrete walkway!! We did trenchless pipebursting breaking up a section of the walkway to where it drops down to about 6' to connect with city line in middle of street. Then we saw video from there to the city line more roots!! So we did relining for that part except for last 10' that was clear. Used Leading Edge Plumbing. |

The company i had was LNR Industries. they were very professional and courteous. There was no charge for them to camera the sewer line and free estimate. They installed a product called the "a" clamp on the trap and riser pipe so that the frost doesn't pull the riser pipe out of the trap, which could allow objects to enter the sewer and back up. the owner invented this product |

Roto-Rooter did job. Construction supervisor very arrogant. The liner company rep installed liner to far into city sewer, thus causing work to be done there. had no sewer usage for 3 days, also had to relocate. Sales rep claims will compensate for trouble, but never returns calls they also claims not to know rep from liner company. very unprofessional. |

After living in my house for 9 yr. started having sewer problems. This has continued for 6 yrs. now. After trying to fix the problem about 100 times(snaking, flushing, cleaning)and paying sewer charges over 9000.Started to replace all. Only to find out that the sewer line went no where. just pipe thrown in the ground.and covered.CHECK THE WORK, AS IT IS BEING DONE!!!!!
The 80+ yr.old lady actually paid for this to be connected in 1992. |
