Installer: Clear Choice Windows of South Bend |
We recently purchased our windows from Clear Choice Windows of South Bend. We met this company at our local Home Improvement Show. This was by far the best window at the best price. We talked to several other companies at the show and Clear Choice was the best at price, quality, and went into great detail about the window and there company. They are part of a large national network, but locally owned and operated. The price we paid includes LowE/Argon, exterior trim, grids between the glass of top sash, and qualifies for the federal tax credit for 2010. I strongly reccomend this comany to anyone looking to replace there windows. |

Installer: Home Depot |
Had Home Depot come out to quote us on our 1967 rancher to replace 8 windows + 1 sliding glass door. Quoted us 3 different levels: cheapest was JenGard for $5K, then Simonton ClearValue for $6800, then Simonton 6200 for $8K. We opted for ClearValues...only slider choice was the Simonton 6200, so factor that into the overall cost. Very pleased so far...said that windows typically arrive in 2-3 weeks, can install our whole house in 1 day. |

You really have to shop around before you pay thousands and thousands of dollars. I found out that most windows do not really differ all that much in quality as long as they are low e glass and argon gas that qualify for the federal tax credit. This guy did our windows for $220 each. Beautiful windows and a great job. |

Avoid Clear Choice Windows...we just lost close to $2,000 dealing with them..the company apparently closed the day before our windows were to be installed...we are unable to contact anyone at the corporate office or local office. We got the news from the salesperson who took our money but did not deliver |

I just had our windows installed by Clear Choice this week. Just after the installation I noticed a huge difference in room temperature. I think I am going to use much less gas to heat my home. The company did for me everything I was told and expected. The quality is very good, installation went very good, and I have a transferable liftetime warranty.
Now I had several estimates from local companies and was amazed how the cost of windows is so different from company to company. My highest estimate was $3450. My Lowest was for 1800.
I felt most Clear Choice was the most honest, upfront and they are locally owned but have a national chain to stand behind them. In this economy you never know when some of these companies might go out of business. With location throuoght the US if we need service and they are not here locaaly, we have somewhere to turn to. Thank You |

We are shopping for replacement windows for our 1967 home in AZ. We have an installed quote of $7500 from Home Depot for Simonton and ~4000 do it yourself Milgards from Lowe's. Has anyone purchased and/or had these window brands installed by either of these big box stores. We want to get the best we can afford and the heat here is an issue. |

We are replacing the builder-grade windows in our 10-year old house, almost all of which have broken mechanisms. The cost we negotiated included installation, and removal and disposal of old windows. Windows are double-pane with Argon and heat-reflective coating.
The sales pitch was long and the salesman gave us three decreasing prices: good for one year, good for thirty days, and good for one day. We negotiated 20% below the one day only price. |

Price wasn't the lowest but much lower than Power and Window Wizards. Windows came with energy package and grids. |

I am trying to determine if this is a good quality window to replace my existing windows. We were given another company's estimate for another brand that ran about $4500 for less than half the number of windows of the same size, and I want to make sure I'm not sacrificing a major difference in quality for the price. |

Number of Windows: 29 | Number Lineal Inches: |
Brand: proguard | Window Type: Vinly double hung low E |
Installer: Allgood construction |
I just got an estimate from Allgood construction, which is a company serving N.C. and specializing in vinyl replacement windows, doors, storm doors. I have 29 windows in my home. One of which is a picture window measuring 9 feet wide by 5 feet tall. I also need 21 sets of shutters and 2 storm doors. They have quoted me what I think is a great price of $13,700! They will also replace any rotten or damaged wood around the window frame free of charge. No matter what problem they may run into during installation, I will not be asked for a dime more than my estimate. No money at all is due until the job is completed to my satisfaction. The products they quoted me for are excellent quality, double hung windows that tilt in for cleaning on both the top and bottom windows. They are also gas filled for energy saving and qualify for the full $1500 tax exemption. They also, get this, guarantee all of it for life. If my grandson happens to break one of the windows with a baseball, they'll come out and replace it with a new one. If I notice any at all wrong with the workmanship or products during my lifetime, they will replace it free. They've been in business 51 years and plan to be around many, many more they say. They check out well with the BBB. I guess with the bad economy, folks have realized they need to offer better deals. I think I'll take advantage of this one. |

Tax credit eligible windows that look lovely.
A very professional job by a company I would
recommend to anyone. I received a similar quote
from Windows World for the same window but went with T. Smith in order to get some siding repair done along with the windows. I haven't received an electric bill yet but hopefully it will be lower by at least 20%. |

Installer: C & L Ward |
Bought the house in April of 09. Discovered this winter just how bad the original windows are, as in there's a major draft in the living room, upstairs hall and our daughter's room. We chose to go with C & L Ward after visiting their show room at the local mall. We felt that the quote, which includes installation, clean up, caulking, and replacement of any casings that have molded/rotted out.
I have heard of the company, but not heard anything bad about them. Two of my other choices I found nothing but bad about them. Also, I would rather not be the one ripping out or installing new windows as I would probably screw it up and then have to pay 2x any savings by the DYI project to have them fixed.
All 15 windows are tax credit qualifying. Price includes a discount to match the tax credit. 2010 isn't in the option box yet, but that is when we purchased them, not 2009. |

Windows are energy efficient and qualify for tax credit. I saw a lot of windows as having similar features, all were energy efficient, but belive the installation makes the difference. This company had highly qualified installers, and we can feel the difference in energy efficiency, compared to windows we had installed by a local contractor...he obviously didn't know what he was doing, so we are having Homesealed reinstall those windows for us.

Number of Windows: 17 | Number Lineal Inches: 1920 |
Brand: Ply Gem | Window Type: Various |
Installer: Kelanar |
He must have thought we were filthy rich or suckers. After we walked around our home and measured each window, we expecting the Kelanar sales rep to give an estimate between $10,000 to $20,000 for all 17 of our windows. His estimate was waaaay over what we expected and about 25 percent of the house value. We did not go with Kelanar. There was a lot of pressure when they give a big discount to sign right away and the sales rep would take off $10,000 if we signed that night. They say they manufacture the windows but we saw the brochure of 'Ply Gem' and confronted him. When we tried to get a itemized amount of price per window installed, taxes and all fees, but he said we'd have to work for Kelanar to see that and they need to make a profit. "Yo quiero mis chocolate oscuro, pero mis cuentas claras." I like my cholocate dark but my bills clear.
At the beginning, he said other companies do the bait and switch, but Kelanar are straight shooters and there are no hidden fees and he doesn't get much commission, but he must have been marking up the price per window by 18-20%!
Breakdown of window linear inches:
Room Total, Linear In
Master Bed, 72
Mst Bth, 36
Office, 180
Bed 1, 90
Laundry, 30
Red Room, 168
Living Room, 672
Hall, 672
Total, 1920
We do have some big windows but we think it shouldn't cost that much and thought he was trying to markup the prices.
We're going to shrink wrap a couple windows to see if that helps, ask around who others used, and check the prices at Home Depot. |

Simonton Impression 7500 Single Hung LowE366 glass package. Double hung did not qualify for credit BUT we didn't need it anyway.
We have lived in our 1908 Victorian since 2003. The single pane, old windows were in okay condition, not leaking but does get moldy around the bottom edge on the inside which requires cleaning every 3-4 months. Our world has completely changed with the window replacement. No more noise, no more extreme hot/cold. We replaced 8 windows, measurements are :
(1) 29x76 - this one was laminated glass for extra sound protection
(1) 29x68
(2) 33x60
(2) 23x68
(1) 35x68
(1) 28x20
Windows qualify for government $1500 tax credit. 1 day installation, 2 carpenters, about 6-7 hours of work. All new trim with silicone caulking in/out side. Hauled away old windows, crew cleaned up very well. |

I need to replace 8 double hung and a picture window. I ran into the local Clear Choice installer at a home show. His price was the lowest at 3535.00
the other two price quotes were 4950.00 and 6700.00
I can not see a real difference in these windows.
Are the other two guys waiting for a come back or what? |

Number of Windows: 9 | Number Lineal Inches: 791 UI |
Brand: ThermaStar by Pella | Window Type: 8 single hung, 1 picture, vinyl, argon |
Installer: Lowes |
This price includes installation fees. We are told these windows also qualify for the energy tax credit. This is the only quote we have received and it seems reasonable to us if not low. I am somewhat leery of purchasing from a big-box, chain store, but it IS more convenient. I'm also worried that the windows are too cheap, but then again I don't want to spend much, so this is probably what we will go with. |

Was quoted 6800 for 26 double hung and 2 picture windows. Quote does not include outside trim. Windows qualify for the 1500 credit and as such would cost $5300. Seems to be a quality window...but would be interested to learn if anyone has used this company before. They are suppose to be the largest window installer in the US... |
