I just replaced my system with a 16SEER system. The first company I had out quoted me $6900 for a 13SEER model. The company I chose to go with was the second to come out and gave me options from $6100 to $18,000. I really appreciated getting the options as instead of just getting one price like the other company. The one I decided to go with was $8748. I got a great warranty and financing. I am happy with what I paid because I had all of my options presented to me. |

Home owners you are being ripped off if you are paying the prices I see here for replacement furnaces. I paid less that 2500 including permit fees to replace a furnace and minor duct work.
Sorry to be critical, but a smart idiot can remove, install, and put in duct work. With absolutely zero experience doing this, it took me 1 day following the instructions. The next day the city inspector came out and passed the installation.
Inspector said too many people get ripped off by HVAC contractors. |

All I need is to have the old Ruud Package unit removed. A new 2 ton 14 Seer+ Package unit set down on the same slab. I want it connected back up to the existing electrical & Ducts. I've been quoted $4000 for a 13 Seer POS Goodman. I known the unit itself costs half that much, so I don't think $2000 for installing it is a bargain. I want a unit that will qualify for the energy tax credit. |

I'm about to purchase a Trane 4TTR50481 and Trane 4TEE3C09A. My present unit is a carrier and it is about 10 years old. The house is still ice cold but we are looking to upgrade for energy efficiency. Is this a good price for what I am planning on purchasing? What about the efficiency of these models? |

I just got 2 estimate from Home depot and Sears.
The Cost for their best system is about $13000. With Rebate and tax credits it will be around $9000 to $10000. Is this price a fair price for replacing AC unit and furnace for a 1800 SF house in San Diego, CA? Any input is greatly appreciated before I make a decision. Should I get another estimate from smaller company or is it going to be the same. Is it better to go with Sears or Home depot? Please email me with your input at [email protected].
Thank you |

I just contracted for 3 replacement AC units on our 6,000 ft house - (1) 5 ton, (2) 4 tons all 16 SEER 2 stage Bryant High Efficiency Units (inside and out) - this is before the appliable tax credits and the utility company SEER rebates. Is this a fair deal? |

Contractor: Zagros Heating & Air Cond. | BTUs: 115K |
I had 5 estimates from the big boys ranges from $8K to $13K. A friend recommended Zagros. They replaced our 2600+ sf house w/ a 4ton 15SEER AC system and 115K BTU furnace - AHRI approved (Trane condenser and furnace, Aspen coil) for $6,3750. The system also qualifies for the $1,500 tax credit. They arrived on time. Gave top notch installation. The system works like a champ. We highly recommend Zagros to anyone living in VA, DC and MD. |

Is 13,000 (unit & installation) a fair price? |

I have a 2,600 sq ft center hall colonial. Attic and basement are very open and unobstructed. House was built in appx 1985. There is no ductwork. What can I expect a fair price range to be for full installation with a few different makes of equipment? |

they said the condensor was broken and obsolete so I needed a new unit both inside and out. It will be a 5 ton 13 seer. I have no idea if $6500 is good, but they said the 14 seer would be 11,000
It's too hot at 105 degrees to shop around! |

Recently install a Space Pack system including ductwork for 19 outlets on two floors. 1920's home with no duct work, just steam radiators. Works great and also I got a heat pump with a dual fuel thermostat. Only about $400 in additional material cost. Oil heat will only come on when it is below 25F or so. (I can set this depending on the cost of oil.) If you are installing new central air you should ask about this type of setup as you can save money on heat especially if you have oil. I do not recommend do it your self unless you are very handy and have the assistance of an HVAC professional. (My father help with the charging of the system etc.) |

I am a TRANE certified contractor and the price of most the installs I see here are pretty much on par with what we charge here as long as they are done correctly and with good equipment. 3500 -5000 for an add on install? This is as much, or more, as we pay for equipment with materials and labor/overhead. beware of lowball bidders. Make sure they are carrying current workers comp and are licensed. If they are removing asbestos make sure a certified company is doing this and dont take any shortcuts. A recent survey shows that 90% of all installs are done wrong and are costing the customer in efficiency. I pay many $$$ to keep my install team up to date with training and the best materials to keep in the 10% that do it right.
And valentino, "Contractors just scalp you for such easy work"??? Keep in mind Package units are much easier typically than split systems and our price reflects it. What if you fall off the roof or have a gas leak or electrical problem, who is liable? What if the there is problems with the unit? No one will warranty it. We carry all the liablilty that you dont see and unfortunately this liability comes at a price.
Hope this helps

Contractor: me and a friend | BTUs: |
Purchased a 4 tone 14 SEER Trane packaged AC (all included roof mounted)through a friend who worked for Trane co.and had it delivered to my house. I dismantled the old unit piece by piece with the help of a cordless drill and a screw driver bit)sold the metal to a metal scrap yard for $145.00 (copper is expensive). I fabricated a new platform to match the new AC unit.connected to the roof in lace of the old one. I hired a crane for 195.00. The crane picked up the new AC and placed it on my new stand. connected the sheet metal duct (perfect match to the old one).Hired an electrician to hook up the existing wires (I don't deal with electricity) for $150.00. Done! one day (sping time). Contractors just scalp you for such easy work. |
