The driveway is the first welcome mat people see when they arrive at your house. So if it falls into disrepair, it can take away from your home's curb appeal and reduce the value of the property. First you must decide, can the drive be fixed or does it have to be replaced?
Typical costs:
If repairs on your cement or asphalt driveway are small, and you are going to do it yourself, then it might be as simple as buying 1 gallon of latex stone asphalt patch or another kind of liquid crack filler that costs around $10 at many home appliance stores, For larger cracks and depressions, an asphalt repair product could be called for. The cost is about $10 a gallon.
To fill holes, you must clean away the debris, fill the hole with a patching material (prices range from $5 to $9 for a 60-pound bag) and then tamp the material down to compress it as much as possible. Homeowners who do not have the equipment to tamp down the patch material can use a plywood board placed over the patch material and then park a car over the repaired spot for two or more days.
Hiring a handyman to spend a couple hours patching cracks or filling holes could bring the total cost (labor and materials) to $100-$250 or more, depending on local rates and the amount of repair needed.
If the damage is extensive, repaving may be necessary. A newly paved driveway can cost $600-$3,000 for gravel, macadam or black asphalt for a small 12x50 (600 square foot) surface, and can run two to three times as much for materials like concrete or cobblestones.
Instructions on do-it-yourself driveway repairs are available from Popular Mechanics[1] and through classes at major hardware and home appliance stores.
Additional costs:
If you are going to change the shape or look of the current driveway, you may need to hire a landscape architect. The American Society of Landscape Architects[2] can help you find a professional in your area.
If you are going to do the repair work yourself, check with your local building officials about any necessary permits or where you can take classes.

ABM Aluminum, Inc. did a horrible job and the supervisor, Eddy Mora, refuses to take my calls and left the work incomplete. Pictures are available if needed.
I purchased a home built in 1954 with a semicircular driveway that has a straight extension on the right going into the garage. The driveway has some potholes and good sized dips and when I started working on it I discovered not only was the extension to the driveway double wide (If was over grown 2' on the left and 9' on the right) but also that it is nearly twice the size I thought. The overgrowth is mostly thick crabgrass. I hope to have it all uncovered and the filling and patching done spring 2014 to have 6 months to cure/dry and seal it next fall. Approximate total materials cost above (this is a VERY large driveway). Sure beats getting it repaved. Still, to provide this service for another household (I own a small company that assists homeowners with household upkeep, maintenance, and general repairs) I'd have to charge at least $2,800 for a driveway my size and it would take weeks to complete and would have to be worked on in stages for certain materials to cure/dry.
Had a new driveway put in about a year ago & just recently decided it was time to put a seal coat on it to protect it. But it looks terrible, after following all directions clearly. I have cracked areas & a lot of goopy spots around the edge, even tho I edged it with a brush beforehand. The only thing I didn't do was tape around the edges & I regret this. Is there an easy way to make corrections, or am I stuck with them messes ?
