Tree Trimming, or pruning, eliminates dead or dying limbs and dangerous branches. Pruning also allows for healthy new growth and an aesthetic shape. Trimmers quote the cost of each tree separately, based on their hourly rate times their estimate of how long it will take.
Typical costs:
Assuming no buildings or utilities are nearby, a 30-foot high tree like a Black Mulberry, Dogwood or Russian Olive will cost $75-$437 to trim, depending on the type and condition of the tree.
A tree from 30-60 feet tall--including the Black Alder, Black Gum and Crabapple--in the same open area can run $150-$874.
Trimming a Red Oak, Pine or Black Locust tree just over 60-feet high without obstacles averages $200-$1,000+.
Tree Help.com[1] offers how-to help for homeowners who want to take care of the trimming. They sell hand-held pruners and loppers at $36 that can be useful on smaller branches and fruit trees. A gas pole pruner[2] runs $179 at Home Depot.com.
Trimming trees near high voltage electrical lines is dangerous. Contact the local utilities department which is responsible for clearing trees and branches away from lines.
When trees are near buildings or power lines, the tree limbs cannot just be dropped to the ground. Each end to be cut must be "roped down." The climber ties a rope around the piece to be cut off. After cutting, the section of wood is lowered slowly to the ground. Because this process takes longer, it will cost more.
Larger jobs result in a greater amount of felled wood. Homeowners have the option to keep it for firewood or pay to have it chipped or hauled away.
Additional costs:
Clearing deadwood--cutting away dead or broken limbs--from an 80-foot oak can cost about $1,050 with the clear use of a bucket truck, all around the tree. The same tree will cost closer to $1,400 if cut by a climber and no access exists for a truck.
Emergency work--after hours or weekends--can run around $250 per hour.
Hiring a trimmer from out of the area usually results in additional drive-time pay.

2012 N. ILL. 2 guys 1/2 day 30 ft Sugar Maple tree. Single base about 20 inch with avgerage amount of branches and it was 30 ft tall. One guy climbing, cutting and rope dropped while the other sectioned to 18 inches on the ground. I split it all myself to use as winter heat. I helped in sectioning felled branches with a itty-bitty 14" electric saw. They were surprised I almost kept up with there 42" Super-Saw. . 2015 looking to trim 2 more trees but there est. price quadrupled???!!! Looks like I'll be doing this myself,... and I'm 62. . ======> ESTIMATES WANTED <======= As of Sept 2015 I'm still looking for estimates and trees must be done before Oct 31. Hi to all, my wife and I had 52 pines to be removed. We had several Estimates all from 10,000 down to 6,000 for the job. We found these guys they work the whole Tri City's Area in Virginia and Tennessee. They were great extremely professional and most of all very nice guys all of them. They cut all the pines and hauled them away in 2 days. They were very fast at what they did. I would and I will recommend them to anyone in my area that needs Tree Services. They did this all for 4,000. This is a small company and they were unbelievable nice professional and the best we could find.
I needed a dozen cypress trees cut to about 12'. The trees were 25' to 30' tall. They were next to a wall but not near the street. Joe cut all the trees to 12', swept the area and hauled away all the branches for a total of $200. Job was completed in 4 hours.
very good work dependable and very professional would recommend him to anybody..89 trees I needed clean up..$5800 that is to all off clean up trees top trees..and he thrown in my 2 oak trees for the same price very so I gave him a 200 dollar tip awesome company!!
The work was exquisite. It was very cost effective especially for the area. It was done in one day. People gave me an estimate of $12,000.00 for 6 cotton woods and 3 pines with stump grinding. The cotton woods were 36 inch diameter and more same with pines. He charged me $5800.00. It was done in one day and my yard looked better than it did the day before.
DID A VERY PROFESSIONAL JOB A LOT OF SAFETY FACTORS THE MEN WERE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND VERY SAFE ABOUT THEIR WORK AND ENJOYMENT TO WATCH THEM WORK NEVER HAVE I SEEN MEN WORK TOGETHER LIKE THEM EVERY MOVE THEY MADE COUNTED FOR SOMETHING ,THEY HAD ALL KIND OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB AND CLEANED THE AREA EXCELLENT.I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANY BODY.VERY COURTEIOUS, TIM YOUNG TREE SERVICE
Quoted us $580. to remove a 50 ft tree, trim 2 trees, and haul debris. They didn't trim the tree's as we wanted, still has dead tree limbs. It's husband and wife team at first they will be nice and friendly. When you complain they will get rude and say they did what they can do. Not recommended.
Had 2 trees removed they had dropped the trees in my yard without my permission which ruined my yard and left large amount of debris in yard the worst experience in tree work I ever had and very overpriced I should have called someone else and weren't properly license in Maryland.Do not use these contractors.
We had two pine trees taken down beside our house that required alot of cutting limbs an lower them and the service was outstanding,it was a husband and wife family business the clean-up was great with nothing left behind nice and friendly crew.we have had a few tree companys in the past that took our money or never did the whole job.we would recommend this company to everyone.
Had huge, multi-trunk junk maple growing near house. Contractor quoted very reasonable price. Got the tree down in half a day, cleaned up mess very well, left plenty of firewood for the neighbor to take for free. Good quality service at reasonable price, would recommend. I'm having them out again this summer to trim another maple in front yard.
I got quotes ranging from 500 - 1800 for trimming 3 trees. Went with the cheapest and ended up paying 100$ more to take more off than originally quoted. Contractor and his helper took 3 days to complete the job..about half the time was cutting up the felled branches to fit in his pickup, so not the most efficient. Cut trees from 40 ft high to 15-20 ft.
These guys did a out standing job on removing a large hazardous tree that was over hanging a shed and fence. The owner also took several pics of the removal process and e-mailed then to me while I was at work. I highly recommend custom cuts tree service 817 808 9004 they do work all over the dfw area. Will use them again.

Type of Tree: Norway maples & Coke cherry tree
Height: 2 XLg & 1LG ??
Contractor: Upstate NY Tree Service
Amount spent was with senior disc 10%. I'm sure I could have done better with someone else but this guy was a smooth talker, he had his men on the sight before I could even sign up for superguarntee and this was late afternoon. My biggest complaint was all his expensive equipment he bragged about had problems with leaking oil, rubber coming off the treads leaving terrible gouges throughout our yard. Pretty much everything was inclusive in this deal down to removing stumps and feeder roots. He made me think I was getting a real deal when he threw in a load of dirt and a 40lb bag of grass seed. Very poorly completed and I was left to water 'til the cows come home. I feel guilty using the water on such a pathectic mess. There's more I could comment about but I won't bore you.
The owners of the company Daniel Satterfield and Mitchell Surtees were very personable ,knowledgeable and experienced. They removed the tree with precision and confidence. The price was more then reasonable> Very satisfied
