Moves are considered local when they are within 100 miles and stay inside the state of origin. Local movers generally charge around $25 per hour, per mover, broken into quarter hours. Moving time varies according to the size of the unit, amount of contents and whether the movers are hired to load and unload only or also handle the packing.
Typical costs:
A studio apartment takes two movers--at $25 each per hour--an average of 2-4 hours to load, transport and unload for a price of $100-$200.
The same service for a 900-square foot two-bedroom apartment with three movers will take 4-6 hours and cost $300-$450.
Price for a three-bedroom, 1,750-square foot house using four movers who load, transport and unload, runs $600-$900 and takes about 6-9 hours.
A larger home with more than 5,000-square feet will take six or more movers 8-12 hours and is priced around $1,200-$1,800.
Loading, transport and unloading of all household goods should be included, except for very heavy or fragile pieces -- like big screen TV's -- which require special packing techniques.
Additional costs:
Packing and unpacking services are available for $25-$35 per hour, plus the cost of packing material.
Plasma TVs may be shipped locally for no extra cost if they are in their original packaging. If that is not available a special plasma TV packing box is available for rent at around $50. Older style large screen, non-plasma TVs may require extra manpower to load, which would increase the cost by about $25 per hour.
Summer and weekends are priced from 20% higher.
Stairs, long or difficult distances from the truck to the door are priced higher.
Tipping is common for movers and runs $3-$5 per hour or 7-15% of the total move cost.
Insurance for a move runs about 30 cents per pound.

They moved about ten of us at my dorm. They were great. They are everywhere now and they have a Moving app like Uber for movers. Stacks moving and Stacks movers
$25 an hour is totally unrealistic. I have been quoted rates from around $135 (low quote) per hour, with a minimum of 2 or 3 hours (depending on the mover), plus an additional $135 (or whatever the hourly rate is) travel/curb/labor; 3 men. This is regardless of the size of the load. If I could find a mover for $25 an hour I would hire them on the spot!
Does anyone have a recommendation for movers in Naperville, IL? We need to move most of our items to either a storage facility we located or to the moving company's own storage facility. The rest of our items we will move to our temporary housing but need someone to move the furniture.
We found MVP through a Craig's list ad ,skeptical to say the least, in moving and labor. We had 3 movers for 4hours to move our 3 bed 3 bath 1500sf home to a similar style home. We have 2 pianos, some gym equipment, and all our furniture and belongings. They made my life so easy. They packed the truck, safely padded all my belongings, took my baby grand piano apart, unloaded, put all my beds back together, put my piano's into the music room down stairs, gym equipment down stairs, folded all my moving pads, and swept out my u-haul for me. They were so professional, had all there tools ready for assembly and disassemble of piano and furniture, dollies, and some kind of strap thing to move heavy thing, they brought extra pads just in case I needed them for free, straps and bungies. We loved having them around for children, they were so positive and careful with them around, they even gave them a little talk about staying in school. We did receive a discount for being a senior.
Was very happy w/ results. The packers were very polite and got the job done...just question if the job could have gotten done faster. Had two guys move both my boyfriend's place (1bed/1bath) and my place (2bed/2bath) into a townhouse (3bed/2bath) that was only 10 minutes across town. (also my boyfriend and I only lived 5 minutes apart). I was quoted $109/hr. We had everything already boxed up but they had to do a lot of wrapping of bedrooms sets, 2 large sectionals and break-down beds. However, we were quoted no more than 7 hours and it ended up taking 10. The guys were constantly working and I totally understand you can't hustle with a couch in your arms. Just didn't feel right when the move took 3 hours longer than expected. Any opinions if we were charged a fair amount in the end? Appreciate feedback :)

Mover: american mover
quoted us 5 men 11 hours for a 4 bedroom home even though we were moving ALL the smaller stuff (plants, filing boxes, end tables, rugs, small chairs, suitcases, dish boxes, clothes from drawers) $2400
The price they quoted was one of the lowest we found, $50 fee, $200 for the first 1.5 hours, and $100 per hour after that. Everyone was very nice and polite, but the movers were extremely slow and inefficient. We had a 2 bedroom apartment, and they had seen the amount of items we had. Yet, they brought a small truck and needed two trips. There were three guys and it took them 12 hours to move. They had no uniforms, and the truck was a Budget rental. I do not recommend them to anyone unless you have so many fragile things that you need slow movers.
These guys were awesome! I had 4 guys move my 2 bedroom home. They didn't charge me all these hidden fees and the hourly rate didn't start until the moment they actually started moving my things. They were clearly very experienced and they used carts and dollies for practically everything. They had wrap and blankets to protect everything too. I have some very big, very heavy pieces of furniture and they got everything moved without a scratch! For movers who really take great care of your things, and are easy on your wallet you can find them at www.1plusmovers.com or call them at (832) 323-3279 I will recommend these guys to everyone.
They were efficient.Well Dressed and very reasonable. The owners and even the woman in the office were polite and extremely helpful. I will use them again
TCBC was outstanding. They came in and not only packed up my entire 6 bedroom 3 bath house in two day. But they also helped me purge my items, and organize them In My new home. nothing broke and i cpuld locate everything nice and easily.

Mover: W K MOVING & DELIVERY SERVICE
3 Men for $ 110.00. We had a 3 bedroom home to move, They were there on time, Worked non-stop and efficiently. They wrapped all of my furniture that needed wrapping. Nothing was damaged, We are very happy and satisfied and would recommend them to friends and family and use them in the near future.
I had a 2 bdrm home moved. All items were broken down and everything was packed in boxes before they came. The move took about 9 hours for 2 guys. I feel that the move was a little slower than expected, but on the good side, we only had 2 dishes as casualties...
The price was reasonable. The men were very friendly and worked quickly but they were not the most attentive when it came to where the boxes should go. I spent extra hours moving boxes from the wrong room to the room that it was labeled. This was exhausting to find kitchen boxes buried and stacked hap-hazardly in my bedroom but in their defense I do own alot of stuff and I think they were just trying to do a speedy job. They dinged a few of my fairly inexpensive IKEA- style furniture pieces which to be honest can you really expect a big move not to result in a few marks. They did 'temporariliy' lose a few loose items like shelves to bookcases and hanging chains for plant holders etc. by tosses them in random boxes when they fell from their original placement (where they were packed, or came loose while moving.) This made looking for them like a needle in a haystack. Overall- they did an OK job, they were timely, they worked fast, were very kind and professional just not as gentle, attentive as I would have liked.
I needed movers A.S.A.P. (call was short notice.)Those guys worked fast but carful. Nothing damaged so i was very pleased.$50 for two workers, i couldn't beat that with a 5 hour job. When i need to again are friends i will tell them about Dee's Moving Service
The move was $90 an hour. The way the guys worked made it seem like they were not working by the hour. They were very and did not damage any of my items. I moved into a storage and I when I move into my new home, I will be using them.
$99/hour for two men and a truck. The stop watch started when they left their office. They used various items to protect furniture and moved them very carefully. They worked hard but not remarkably. Since I had moved all moving boxes and disassembled all large items by myself beforehand, it was nicer if they could finish within 2.5 hours. I moved from 2 bedroom townhouse to a similar property.
Prompt Affordable Service also means great care when you work with these folks. I hired Stallion Moving Services on very short notice to completely pack and load my entire 6 bedroom home into boxes and then 5 pods. Not only did it come together remarkably fast, but not a thing was damaged. These guys worked incredibly hard at a steady pace. They have my highest recommendation.
