When a roof begins to leak, it may need to be replaced. However, on an otherwise sturdy roof, a repair of a small area may be all that is needed.
Typical costs:
Repairing a 10x10-foot square of asphalt shingles, considered one square of roofing, runs $100-$350 using a roofing company. Repairing a few missing or broken asphalt shingles through a handyman service runs $95-$127.
Reparing wooden shingles using a roofing company for a 10x10-foot square costs $210-$1,000. Repairing a couple of broken or missing shingles using a handyman can run $135-$175.
Homeowners can take care of individual broken or torn asphalt or wooden shingles, according to Better Homes and Gardens.
Roof repair jobs should include the installation of new shingles, sealing with a roof cement product and cleanup of any old shingles and debris.
Additional costs:
Flashing is the metal or vinyl stripping that acts either as a sealed barrier between the roofing material and chimneys or skylights, or when the roof slopes into a valley where the flashing material helps water run off into a gutter system.
When the vinyl or metal flashing that seals the edge of a skylight to the roofing material tears or is pulled away from the skylight, a leak will appear and costs $300-$500 to repair.
Valley roof flashing, which is used anywhere on a roof where slopes create a valley where water drains off, runs $15-$25 per linear foot to repair.
Faulty flashing around a chimney is priced $200-$500.
Discounts:
Some roof repair companies offer senior citizen discounts of 10-30%.
Shopping for a roof repair:
While roofing companies generally handle larger jobs, some services will take on small repairs involving only a couple of shingles. These smaller jobs may also be tackled by the homeowner or a handyman.

Replaced 12 Shingles in 4 separate locations on roof. Left remaining 14 shingles w/me for future use. Only 40 minutes actual labor but I think he did a good job. It probably could have been less through a handyman but $200 is fair, I suppose.
Roof was leaking, no visible damage. The roof is about 9 years old and looks good overall. So I just replaced 35 shingles myself in the trouble-area after researching and watching videos online. My roof is basic, so it was a simple task overall. I worked slowly as a novice - two days, about 2-3 hours each day. I'm happy to have learned a few things and actually enjoyed it. I even have some shingles and nails leftover in case I need to make any quick repairs in the future.
I am going to be sealing a mobile home signal wide what is a reasonable price to change for labor I don't want to change to much but I want to be fair about it
Replaced shingles (about 30 strips) after a good rain. His service was good and I like his smile. But do to the work its showed that he know what he was doing. The cost was reasonable for my budget.
Dustin came out to my home and gave me a dree roof inspection. Educated me on all the thing that needed to be done. Provied me with before and after pics. And a 10 yr labor warranty. Highly recommend dustin his number 314-305-0586
Sam is the owner, he did the job himself. All he did was put some silicon on a broken shingle and charged me 600 dollars for it. At the Time he told me he did several other things but when my son got up there it was pretty clear why this spot was still leaking. Sam never answered or returned my phone calls. This guy is a scam artist with a licence, and a good talker, too. Please be careful dealing with him and watch what he is doing if you consider hiring him.
Do your homework...get a book from Home Depot and note what is suppose to be components of a roof done properly...ie: drip edge not installed, chimney flashing leak not addressed, on and on....Be there to make certain the contractor removes old roof. After the fact I realized how much was not done due to the fact renters were in the house and I was not hands on as a owner occupant would be. Educate yourself before you have any work done to your most valued possessions to ask the right questions etc. Also the price was the same as with a long time roofing company but I thought I would help out a friend...but it was not good for me at all. It really is never good to do business with so called friends.
Company replaced half roof, chimney tuck port. Heavy rain a month later.Leaking around chimney, contacted Paul, was told someone would be out to fix it. That was six years ago. Reported them to BBB nothing came of it!!!
Removed 21 squares of cap sheet roofing, installed 5 ply hot mop roofing and 2 drains tuned up 100 squares of cap sheet roofing
20 year Mfg warranty done in 4 days
Roof Material: Shingles sheet metal improperly installe
Stories: Roof redone in 2009
Contractor: Vince Koach
This guy is no good..he never called back when contacted after having roof leaked heavily along side of bay skylight window's living rooms. The only reason my husband hired him was because his wife employed by same company at my husbands office & he just barely pass his licensing..I cannot recommend him! I felt better when Douglas Cotey Roofing came in to evaluate the mess this guy created!rnThis will cost us additional $900 yaiiiips..rnBuyer beware of this problem of newly licensed person with possibly no experience and messing up your skylight with metal sheet. Not allowing for proper drainage...now, will have to be redone!rnThere, I said my peace!
I called this company for a new Gutter. The contractor told me of a recent hail storm in my area, so he proceeded to look at my roof. I asked him for an estimate and ask how many squares were up on the roof and he told me, he would work directly with my insurance company and he didn't even measure my totaled roof.
The contractor had a lot of fancy forms loaded on his IPad, I was impressed and he asked me to sign his form so that he could talk directly with my adjustor, this made sense as I was real busy but I proceeded to tell him I would be getting estimates from other companies as my agent told me to do so.
Several days later, the adjustor came out the contractor met with him and I found out my roof was 30 sq. My husband asked how much his estimate was he said what ever the insurance is paying plus your deductible, paid to me.
This is where our meeting went sour...he told me I signed a contract.BEWARE of strong arm contractors, charging 30% whether you use him or not.
We had a leak between the garage and the rest of the house. The reason was the flashing was not making contact very well and it had to be fixed and resealed. Also the flashing above two bay windows needed to be resealed. One of the windows actually needed a piece of metal put on top. They also patched-resealed a few spots above the kitchen area.
Shingles were blown off after storm. Doc removed shingles in damaged area. He informed me that the previous roofer had not installed felt paper. Doc installed felt to affected area, Replaced damaged shingles with new ones. There was a spot on the ceiling that was stained from the water damage. Doc treated the stain. I thought he was cheaper than most and very professional. His number is 865-771-3637... Thanks Doc
